  • Three types of chimney for a fireplace

  • Real fireplaces can be found in country houses, in dachas not so often, because the construction of such a structure requires special knowledge, and successful operation depends on the correct chimney. The chimney for the fireplace can be made of solid ceramic bricks, pipes made of steel and ceramics. Each of the materials has its own advantages and application features.

Brick is considered the most durable. With timely prevention and properly performed installation, the service life of a brick chimney is at least 50 years. Its second advantage is its high heat capacity, it accumulates heat and cools down for a long time. This is a common advantage of fireplaces and chimneys made of brick, which gives them an advantage over other materials. But the disadvantages are also significant. Firstly, the large weight of the entire structure, which requires a good foundation laid at the construction stage. Secondly, the profession of a stove maker in our time of heating with gas boilers (not to mention centralized heating) has become unique. After all, by and large, the boiler does not need a chimney, but a hood. Therefore, the cost of such a specialist's services is very high.. Thirdly, like the foundation, a brick chimney should be laid at the design stage. The exception is the external structure, when the fireplace is located against the outer wall.

The second most durable is a ceramic chimney. The main elements are sold ready-made, for example, a chimney gate, umbrellas, facades for fireplaces. The main task is to properly equip the entire system, fulfilling the requirements of the manufacturer and the regulations of domestic standards. But this does not mean that such work can be done with your own hands, you still need a specialist who can fully ensure that the security requirements are met. Ceramics have practically no disadvantages. We can say that this is the most advanced and modern chimney, which reduces prevention and care of it to a minimum (cleaning, condensate drainage). These products are exclusively made abroad, so they cost accordingly. But, 30 years of warranty in the long term, all costs will pay off.

A metal single chimney lasts up to 10 years (depends on the grade of steel, its thickness and type of fuel). Sandwich (double pipe with thermal insulation in the wall), serves up to 15 years, as less condensate is formed, which is the main destructive factor for metal. Its advantages are more affordable cost and ease of installation, including as an outdoor structure when installing a fireplace in an existing room. uk esports betting
